Run and hide the apocalypse is coming.

So my mom has a flickr account. Yes, you heard it right. My mom is on flickr. I got a call from her to ask me whats that "thingy" that I use to share my pictures online. So I explained to her what flickr was, how to sign-up for an account (but that was useless because she just signed up with her yahoo id) and post pictures up online to share with her friends. In her first set of pictures she reached her month's bandwidth limit.

First it was Yahoo Messenger. Now it's flickr. Next on her list of things to adapt, to boggle my mind is: yahoo 360.

Mom infront of her computer typing up a blog entry:
Entry for August 22, 2005
Dear blog,
Today I prayed the rosary for Ritchie because Cheryl is in Las Vegas for a week.

Entry for August 23, 2005
Dear blog,
Today I brought Ritchie food. He looks like he's getting too thin. I think he's into the drugs!

Entry for August 24, 2005
Dear blog,
I have to ask Ritchie how to change title for blog. Ohh! I can write restaurant reviews?
Oh god, save me now!

happiness is....

  • finding an open access point from your desk at work that allows you to surf without being blocked by paranoid network admins.
  • blogging from work using said access point.
  • figuring out that your excel formula can be cut and pasted into the 523124 cells of your workbook without any problem because you spent 3 hours figuring out the proper excel formulas.
  • taking solace in the fact that if this "programmer/web developer" thing doesn't work that you can fall back into a "statistician" role.
  • seeing the annoyingly weird guy almost get run over twice because he tried to jaywalk a really busy intersection.
ok, it's 6:38pm i'm going home!

first day back?

It's all a load of crap I tell ya. I get back from a small mini-vacation to come back to a new office and new surroundings. See, our department has moved to a different location. Now, think of the most inconvenient place you could put a department that supports servers and does development work and move us a few blocks farther from that location. That's where we are. Sweet! At least there are less weird people around here.

Enough bitterness, I've finished unpacking and doing a small purge of things around my desk. Other than a small amount of wiping down, I'm set to get back to working my usual coding goodness.

Although, work is a bit mundane I learned a new mantra from Ern: "I'm in my happy place!" That has been getting me through.

i have to admit...

Vacation is good, even if it is only for the weekend. Busy doing a lot, while doing nothing at the same time. Confusing? Yes, let me explain.

Ern got in late on Thursday night. Arch and I ended up hanging around the airport for two hours. We sat around doing absolutely nothing. While doing nothing, we saw Jojo. Yay! After, we ate out and went home. Ern and I geeked out a bit as you can tell from the pictures.

Friday, was a whole lot of patio chillin' and eating out. We walked around the beach, and sat around on the benches but didn't really do much. That night we ate again, but at the night market. Went home geeked out again.

Yesterday, we went to the day spa. Massages, Mud wraps and salt springs took up the whole morning and part of the afternoon. The rest of the day was spent on a bench on the beach trying not to let the drool slide down because being too relaxed causes you to lose control of the muscles in your face. Then, we watched TV and geeked out some more.

So yea, we're doing lots but we're not doing much at the same time.

So here's the deal-io...

It's been a hectic couple of weeks. Teaching, marking, coordinating and other misc. things that have been happening. Although, I have to say that I've actually kept myself relatively sane throughout the whole process. I think it's the working out and forcing some gym time into the schedule regardless of how busy it is.

I wanted to talk about what I've been up to. Well, I've been planning a small mini-vacation. Starting on Thursday night, my brain will be turned off until Monday. Mindless fun is always needed once in a while.

Two, I've been playing a lot of tennis (again). It's refreshing to come-back to something that you love so much. It's very different this time around. I'm not doing it to prove that I can do it anymore. I know I can; it's a question of do it and do it well. And by well, I mean well enough not to fall flat on my face in a tournament.

Also, Anime. I've been watching way too much anime. In my little spare time, I've been loading up the PSP (oh yea, I bought a PSP) with some anime and looking like a fanboy on the seabus minus the cosplay. Tsubasa Chronicles is kinda like visual crack for the brain. Hummm more crack please.

Oh yea, I'm back!

Work has been kicking my butt. I am staging a comeback. So expect something when the dust settles a bit.
