Resolution 1: Eat better
So now that it’s 2009 I told myself that I’d eat a little bit better. I wrote it down on my 2009 list. Not just to lose weight but to generally put better things into my body. (must. resist. making. stupid. toilet. humor. jokes) I figured I should subscribe to the ‘you are what you eat’ mantra because currently this means that I am made up of fatty sushi, deep fried foods, chicken, spam and rice (lots and lots of rice).
Anyway, my research started with the Canada food guide and some other diet related resources (I have access to two other food guides from various diet plans over the years). I’ve also been suggested to keep a food log. (although, I already have 1 blog that I have trouble updating)
So far here is the culmination of my research into the whole ‘eat healthy, lose weight’ thing.
- Eat. According to the food guide. A man of my age is supposed to be eating the following: 8-10 veggies/fruit, 8 grain products, 2 milk and alternatives, 3 meat and alternatives. That is a tonne of food to consume.
- Eat often, smaller meals apparently help keep the digestive system moving (and the portions above is really hard to eat in 3 huge meals)
- Drink lots of water. Like 8-10 glasses. Not quite sure why this makes a big difference except that perpetually going to the washroom is exercise.
- Deep fried is bad. C’mon did you really need me to tell you that? Actually, in the house we’ve been making it a habit to start cooking with Pam.
I’m going to try and consult with a nutritionist to confirm my research and see if there is anything else that I should be writing in there. So if you have any other tips and tricks or even questions, just post them in the comments and I’ll ask.

Lol, I’m sorry to be the bearer of bad news Jaime.
I think one of the books that made me think about my eating and lifestyle, is Michael Pollan’s “In Defense Of Food”. I wasn’t out to diet, but it gave me a deeper perspective of food and relationship with food, which I think is necessary if you’re really serious about treating your body right.
Oh god I sound so serious. LOL.
Ohhh, I love the suggestion. I will definitely check it out.
