Life changing

I’m not in the business of making life altering decisions. Really I’m not! I tend to lean towards the mundane and am quite adverse to change. I’m the type of person that is completely satisfied lazying on a Saturday morning with a good book and my cartoons *.

I’m going back to school. It’s been 7+ years working at my current day job, 5+ years teaching and probably around 6 years consulting. I think I’m a bit burnt out and needed a change. When my college offered me the opportunity to get into the program and specialty that I wanted, I had to jump on it.

Anyway, I’m not entirely sure of what the new year holds for me but I’m ready and very excited. So I wanted to ask, what should I do to prepare for school?

* By cartoons I mean anime, you know: blood, gore, high school kids in short skirts and tentacles (who can forget tentacles!)

Rouxbe on Rails

There is a reason why I’ve been so MIA lately. I’ve finally jumped on the Web 2.0 wagon. I had many opportunities to jump on the Web 1.0rc5 wagon but decided to opt out of it because of nice health benefits and lots of vacation days (read: Stayed working for ICBC). This time around, I had the opportunity, held tight, closed my eyes and let it fly (read: raped me with a tonne of work).

So why is the project so cool? Well, it involves food and I love to eat. Better yet, it involves good food and learning how to make good food.

Rouxbe connects professional chefs with home cooks: people like you, who love food and are looking to expand their culinary repertoire and improve their skills in the kitchen.

I have tried to make some of the recipes and they are quite easy to make. If I (a totally food/kitchen n00b) can make them, then trust me, anyone can.

Plus working on the site at ungodly hours and watching these recipes have contributed to my holiday weight gain!

So check it out! Let me know what you think (or any bugs) in the comments.

ps: the videos themselves are a lot of work! I was able to actually watch the production process a few weeks ago. I’ll post some pictures up when I get a chance.

I've never been good at writing about me/site pages. It seems too much like self-promotion and being the stereotypical passive-agressive asian; I would rather walk around a crowd and into a train rather than interact with a bunch of people. I'm shy that way, which also contradicts this website that talks about me and my life. My friends and family would care to disagree though, since they've seen my crazy & loud side. More »
