Dorky del.icio.us post

I use del.icio.us everyday. It even powers the list of blogs on the right hand side of this page. For those of you that don’t know, del.icio.us is a free web app (aquired by yahoo) that manages your bookmarks for you. The power is in the tagging, allowing users to ‘tag’ bookmarks which allows you to sort them any way you want.

Every morning, I look through the bookmarks to see if any of the blogs I read (without RSS feeds) have anything new. It’s part of the morning routine along with combing the hair, checking e-mail, and picking my nose (not necessarily in that order). I, however, usually just visit the links in a certain tag: blog, vfs, articles… etc.

My usual link is to my collection, where I click on a tag to sort it out. So being a geek that I am, I whipped up a quick bookmarklet to allow you to type in a tag and take you to the collection with the tag selected. Here you go:

My del.icio.us Links

You can drag that link to your links bar, but remember to change ‘ritchierocks’ to your del.icio.us login.

Proposed Tim Hortons User Experience Changes

So you might be asking yourself, “Self, I wonder why I keep getting inconsistent service at Tim Hortons?” I mean, Tim Horton’s ordering strategy doesn’t involve much complexity, unlike Starbucks. Take my particular order: A bagel and 1 extra large double double (two cream, two sugar). There isn’t much room to screw up, but it still happens.

Since most employed in the lower mainland Tim Hortons seem to be Filipino, my proposal is to introduce a Taglish order translator.

You say: Could I please have a buttered bagel with an extra large double double?
It translates: 1 beigel wid margirin, 1 coppie dobol dobol.

You say: 1 bran muffin and an english toffie.
It translates: Bran Mahpin and english toppie.

Bad idea? Yea, I know. Blog fodder is lacking these days, but I refuse to go on hiatus. Refuse I tell ya!

In other news, my limping server finally decided to die yesterday (which is why the site was down). I, however, had different plans. After a new harddrive, a new power supply and a reinstall of the operating system, everything seems to be working (again).

The post where you get to know a lil bit more

Damn it, I’m can’t find any blog fodder lately. Either that or people are too scared to say or do things around me because it might end up on this website. So let me post some more embarrassing factoids. It is my blog right?

First of all, I have horrible taste in music. As opposed to other bloggers who either like jPop, indie rock and/or trance (something cool); I like mainstream top 40’s and other random junk. Currently playing in my mp3 player?

  • Dru Hill – Angel
  • Ne-Yo – Sexy Love
  • Paul Oakenfold – Faster Kill Fast (feat Brittany Murphy)
  • Cassie – Me and U
  • Clay Aiken – On the wings of love
  • Il Divo – Nella Fantasia

How do I know that I have horrific tastes in music? Well judging from the list above, I have a song with Brittany Murphy on it, and another song where they’ve substituted a “U” for the word “you”. Do I even need to talk about the Clay Aiken song (or the fact that I have his album)? I’m sure I’m violating some Blogger music listening rule.

I have equally horrible tastes in movies. Yes, for example. I saw Step Up on the weekend (cue: Channing Tatum women screams). I did enjoy it really liked it a lot! And if my career as a heart surgeon somehow falls through, then I’m thinking Dancer with Street Cred’ would be another viable solution. Step 1: get rhythm.

And finally, I accessorize! Maybe it’s a side effect of reading all those fashion magazines and style tips. But I do buy a lot of accessories. Watches, belts, bags, organizers name it I probably have it. Heck! I probably have 2 (different colors for coordinating with the rest of the outfit). Why? I’m not entirely sure, but my theory is years of different girlfriends attempting to dress me have finally caught up. No straight male should have the amount of belts and watches that I have.

So while the laughter is still fresh, I’m just going to bury my head in the sand. Like an ostrich… a well accessorized ostrich.

My life lately, in bullet points.

There isn’t really much to talk about. But I’ll try to summarize everything that has been happening in bullet points.

  • My patio deck has to be resurfaced, and the day that the people are coming to fix it is exactly the day that the weather decides that rain would be a good idea.
  • My server needs an upgrade.
  • My living room needs more wiring done to hide all the wires. (ironic? quite)
  • My garden requires a series of timers and or gates connected in parallel to allow me to automate watering my lawn. (highly geeky yes, but cool nonetheless)
  • I need to clean the house, in particular my in house data center and office.
  • If I weren’t a web developer, I should be a heart surgeon. They make a lot of money and live in cool houses where toilets require remote controls and have 3 settings for heat.

I've never been good at writing about me/site pages. It seems too much like self-promotion and being the stereotypical passive-agressive asian; I would rather walk around a crowd and into a train rather than interact with a bunch of people. I'm shy that way, which also contradicts this website that talks about me and my life. My friends and family would care to disagree though, since they've seen my crazy & loud side. More »
